Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
Welcome to Goblet ("we," "us," or "our"). Goblet is an AI-powered sommelier application, operated by GOBLET SOMMELIER LLC, a New Jersey limited liability company, that helps you discover, track, and enjoy wine. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
By using Goblet, whether through our website or our mobile application, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account information: Your name and email address when you create an account
- Password: Stored as a one-way cryptographic hash (we cannot read your password)
- Wine data: Wines you save to your winery, including name, region, grape variety, vintage, and your personal ratings and tasting notes
- Taste preferences: Answers to our onboarding quiz and your evolving taste profile
- Journal entries: Any tasting notes or written entries you create in the app
- Subscription status: If you purchase Goblet Premium, we record whether your subscription is active so we can unlock Premium features. Billing runs entirely through Apple’s App Store or Google Play; we never see or store your payment card details.
2.2 Camera and Photo Access
With your permission, Goblet uses your device camera and photo library so you can scan a wine label, wine list, or shelf photo, and so you can add your own photo of a bottle to your winery. Your phone asks for your consent the first time each is used, and you can change these permissions at any time in your device Settings. We only access a photo you explicitly choose or capture. We never browse your library in the background.
2.3 Images You Upload
When you scan a wine label, wine list, or shelf photo, that image is transmitted to Google's Gemini AI API for analysis. We do not retain the images you scan for identification. They are processed and then discarded; what we store is the result (wine name, region, grape variety, etc.).
Bottle photos you save are the exception. When you add a photo to a wine in your winery (captured, chosen from your library, or kept from a scan), we store a small, compressed copy of that image alongside that wine so it can appear on its card. This photo is tied to your account, is visible only to you, and is permanently removed when you delete that wine or your account.
2.4 Automatically Collected Information
- IP address: Collected when you create a session
- Device and browser information: User agent string (browser type, operating system)
- Usage data: Features you use within the app
3. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account
- To provide personalized wine recommendations matched to your taste profile
- To analyze wine labels, wine lists, and shelf photos using AI
- To save and display your winery, ratings, and tasting notes
- To power your Taste Profile, including structural preferences, favorite regions, and flavour DNA
- To operate Vinum, our AI sommelier chat assistant
- To improve the accuracy and performance of our service
- To send service emails: account notifications and an occasional come-back-and-rate reminder. Every non-essential email includes a one-tap unsubscribe link, and we never send third-party marketing
- To comply with legal obligations
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these limited circumstances:
- Google Gemini API: Wine label, wine list, and shelf images you upload are sent to Google's Gemini AI for analysis. Google's use of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
- Infrastructure providers: We use third-party cloud hosting and database providers to run Goblet and store your account data. They process data solely under our instructions and may not use it for their own purposes.
- Analytics: We use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics to understand aggregate page usage (page views and visit counts). It does not track you across sites, collects no personal identifiers, and is never linked to your account.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes.
Images you scan for identification are not retained; they are processed in real time and discarded. A bottle photo you deliberately save to a wine is kept as a small compressed copy tied to that wine, and is deleted when you remove the wine or your account. Wine metadata (name, region, ratings, notes) is retained as part of your winery until you delete it or your account.
6. Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Update inaccurate information through your account settings
- Deletion: Permanently delete your account and all associated data — in the app under the info (ⓘ) menu, or from any browser on our account page, with no email required
- Portability: Export your full account and winery data as a JSON file from the app
- Opt-out: Unsubscribe from any marketing communications
You can export or permanently delete all of your data yourself: open the info (ⓘ) menu in the app and go to the Account tab. You may also contact us at support@gobletlive.com.
7. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete your personal information, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.
We do not sell personal information to third parties. To submit a verifiable consumer request, contact us at support@gobletlive.com.
8. Children's Privacy
Goblet is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 21. We do not knowingly collect personal information from users under 21. If we become aware that we have collected data from a user under 21, we will delete it promptly. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us at support@gobletlive.com.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed password storage, and access controls on our database. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Third-Party Links
Our app may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new policy on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of Goblet after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
